Having a place designated for password storage is smart. I mean, we have so many passwords to keep track of that it’s just crazy. If you took a day to track how many accounts you log into each week, you’d be floored.
This is why password managers were created. We don’t want to have to remember each individual password, but we know that the best way to protect ourselves is by using complex, hard to remember passwords. On top of that, the best practice is to use unique passwords for each account. Password storage is essential, and quite definitely lifesaving.
How do you determine how much password storage you need?
Restricted password storage
There are some password managers that put a limit on how many passwords they will track for you. This is especially true of the free versions. Even the best free version will put a limit on your password storage.
This makes sense since they really want you to buy their services but do you know how many accounts you have? Most free versions of password managers only allow up to 50 accounts. That’s not nearly enough.
If you take into consideration the number of accounts that you have that would need password storage, you will find that the number is much higher than 50. First, consider your essentials. You have email, which many of us have more than one of. We might have one for personal, one for work, and maybe even one for spam. That’s three right there.
Now consider your online banking. Many of us have more than one financial account. We may have our regular bank, a savings and retirement fund, an investment account, multiple credit card accounts, and perhaps even an online budgeting account.
Let’s not even count the number of online shopping accounts we have. That number would just send us through the roof. So, the answer to how much password storage you need is most definitely as many as you can get/need, and any password manager that doesn’t offer that is just a waste of money or time if it’s a free version.
What to do with unlimited password storage?
Keeping your password in a password manager is really easy and helps to streamline your online navigating. This saves you time and effort. Not only will you never forget a password again, but you can have them automatically fill in all those pesky forms that you have to complete.
Those forms that ask you your name, address, email, phone number, age, yada, yada, yada…well, password managers will make them a breeze.
You can also have them keep your credit and debit card information in the vault so that you can easily input payment info during checkout at your favorite online store. We do so much shopping online nowadays that the brick and mortar stores are becoming obsolete. Do you want to have to put in all those numbers every time you buy something?
In a sense, password storage really just becomes life storage. You can have your whole identity saved in a virtual vault through an online password manager app. This is convenient and scary at the same time. But don’t worry, password storage is safe storage. Most apps use a two-factor authentication process to make sure that no one stumbles upon all your information without permission.
